MICRO LIVING

This South Kensington studio flat came to be after a poorly planned subdivision of a larger unit within the building. It was purchased with a very low ceiling, above which the owners discovered an additional generous void. From first principles the aim was to maximise its potential with careful and bespoke design interventions. Its small footprint but incredibly tall ceiling allowed for the creation of a semi-mezzanine level to accommodate the sleeping area. This freed up the main floor as living room and gave the apartment the identity of a one bedroom unit where one could retreat upstairs, whilst another carried on using the living quarters below. Detailed and bespoke joinery was designed, and prototypes assessed. A small project, and a successful, seemless collaboration between contractors, fabricators, architects and of course, the client. Since its completion been operating successfully as an Airbnb-let.
