CHELSEA ARTIST’S STUDIO - GUNTER HALL STUDIOS

Gunter Hall Studios are a series of artist’s studios centred around Gunter Hall - originally the West Brompton Congregational Chapel built in 1855. Artist’s studios were built around the the former chapel in the 1920’s, by which point the hall had also become a studio. The space was once the base of the Main-Man music label run by Tony Defreis who was manager and UK agent for David Bowie, Mott The Hoople, Iggy Pop and the Stooges and Dana Gillespie.

Our proposal includes a full strip out and interior refurbishment adding floor space via a second mezzanine and creating a self contained master bedroom suite without compromising the internal double height volume. Externally, new glazed dormers will be inserted at roof level, the roof finishes will be renewed and the front facade will be insulated and renewed with subtle changes to the window openings and minimal impact on the heritage asset.

Gunter Hall Studios sit within the Sloane Stanley Conservation area, and have been defined under RBKC Planning Policy as making a positive contribution to the conservation area. The planning process has been a dialogue with planning and conservation officers and pre-applicaiton submissions have been made to determine feasibilty of a number of options to renew and optimsise the building fabric.

Full Planning Permission and Conservation Area Consent was awarded in August 2023 and work will start on site early in 2024.
